Prince George’s County and Charles County Teams in Competition

Prince George’s County and Charles County Teams in Competition

This past weekend PGCSports.com covered four athletic competitions between Prince George’s and Charles County teams. North Point High School hosted several Washington DC Metropolitan area high school track teams at their invitational track meet. Two Prince George’s County high school track teams Friendly and Parkdale were among the competitors. North Point High School also hosted St.-Vincent Pallotti-High School’s varsity and junior varsity baseball teams. In addition to these high school events we were there for the Accokeek vs. South Maryland Youth Organization (SMY0) youth soccer game.

High Point vs Oxon Hill

In our March 31st article we identified three challengers to Baseball State Champion Eleanor Roosevelt; High Point, Laurel, and Bowie. Oxon Hill is proving us wrong, there are four baseball teams challenging! They have suffered close loses to Bowie and Roosevelt but they still are in the thick of the chase for the 4A Title and even the State Title.

Their baseball game with High Point on Saturday April 12th was suspended due to rain but they had established a commanding leading in the 4 innings that were played. These High School players are doing their part to bring championships to Prince George’s County. We should do our part by going out and supporting them. This suspended baseball game will precede Oxon Hill and High Point’s regularly scheduled game on Monday, April 28th, 4:30 at High Point High School.

Bulldogs Softball Faces Two Unbeaten CIAA Teams

This past weekend Bowie State faced two teams that were unbeaten in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) conference play. Johnson C. Smith University and Fayetteville State University were the undefeated opponents for the weekend. During the course of the weekend, the Bulldogs defeated both teams in double headers to remain unbeaten. Bowie State was lead by Junior Tiffany Toney, who hit three home runs in two days.

County Class 4A Baseball Rivals in League Play
In early season Prince George’s County Class 4A play defending State 4A Champion Eleanor Roosevelt Raiders met High Point Eagles. The Eagles were one of only two teams to defeat the Raiders during last year’s 24-2 run. This game was like the first rounds of a prize fight. High Point seemed to be taking measure of the champion while absorbing his blows. The Eagles know that if they meet again, it will be in the playoffs and everything that they learn about the Raiders now will aide them in the return match. Bowie and Laurel may have something to say about whether that return match happens, but for now, High Point has to know that last year wasn’t a fluke and they have reason to hope for a return engagement.
