Dunbar: 2008 Crimson Tide Classic

The 2008 Crimson Tide Classic has signaled that Dunbar High School’s track has once again returned to prominence. When the new Dunbar School opened its doors in 1977, the Crimson Tide Classic Invitational was a hugely successful track meet. However, a deteriorating track took that luster away, and to most, the event had become a distant memory. This past weekend, not only did the track look great, it lived up to expectations.

The new Le Monde track is designed around the athlete and work in tandem with the athlete, according to its representatives. Le Monde provides a durable surface that is designed to be used at every level of competition, from grade school to national championships.

One thing that remained the same from previous years was the demand for excellence on and off the track. Dunbar High School Head Track and Field Coach Marvin Parker places a premium on academic achievement. Every athlete on the track & field team is on the honor roll, an astonishing feat, every young athlete who has competed for Coach Parker has gone to college on a full scholarship. “That’s the achievement I’m most proud of – seeing these kids go on to get a great education.”
