Bowie Blue Jays Winter Training Programs Begin January 2012

To help fastpitch softball players reach their potential as standout players for their middle school, high school and travel teams, the Bowie Blue Jays are running one of the most comprehensive offseason workout programs in the DC/Baltimore area.


Sunday Night Softball at Washington Bible College (Lanham, MD)

Sunday evening sessions for girls 11 – 18 conducted by local high school and Bowie Blue Jays coaches at Washington Bible College’s Wagner Center gymnasium in Lanham, MD.

Each session will run from 6:00 – 8:30 pm, with coaches conducting fielding, hitting, pitching, catching and conditioning drills. The Washington Bible College gymnasium is the largest space used for softball training in the Maryland suburbs. We’ll work hard and have fun, with music, contests and other activities to keep things interesting! Sessions are on January 8, 15, 22, 29 and February 12, 19 and 26.

Saturday Hitting Sessions at Mid Atlantic Sports Academy (Millersville, MD)

Weekly group hitting sessions led by hitting instructor Allison Farrington and the Blue Jays coaches. Each session will focus on improving players’ hitting mechanics to increase their power and consistency at the plate. We’ll also work on short game skills (bunting & slapping) and hitting strategy. Cost is $150 per player for seven sessions (Jan 7, 14, 28, Feb 4, 11, 18, 25). Participants will be assigned to 90 minute sessions between 10:30 am and 2:30 pm. The Bowie Blue Jays have several openings on each of their teams, 12U through 18U, for players looking to play in challenging tournaments against other travel teams. With over 11 teams ranging from 9u/3rd grade to 17u/11th grade Boys and Girls, we are on the path to becoming one of the premier organizations on the east coast.

Byron Mouton, captain of the 2002 University of Maryland National Championship team founded 6th Man Sports, then developed the 6th Man Warriors AAU organization. Byron helped lead the Terrapins to the first National Championship in the history of the university. Just as he was dedicated to the Terrapins, he is dedicated to developing young athletes both on and off the court. “Many kids are not only seeking athletic development, they are looking for guidance and personal development as well,” says Byron.

Cheerleaders are one of the most visible and recognizable “ambassadors” of their respective Boys & Girls Club. Each of the girls in this contest were winners even before they took the floor Sunday because they demonstrated positive behavior, and team cohesiveness. More than 40 teams are expected to compete in the competition.  Spectators arrive before 10:00 a.m. for good seat locations.

The Southern Maryland Shockers 10u team will be having its last tryout on Saturday, August 27, 2011 from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm. This Championship Team has a few openings for girls who will be 10 or under on December 31, 2011. We encourage young ladies in Southern Prince Georges, Charles and St Mary's Counties to elevate their softball game andtryout

The final tryout is going to be held at the Benedict field . ** be prompt because you will be seeking to join very committed group of softball players. Emphasis will be on improving softball skills but “Fun” is big part of the Shockers’ experience.

The Shockers plan on playing in fall tournaments this year.

Bowie Blue Jays 12U Softball Tryouts

The Bowie Blue Jays 12u Softball team is having its last tryout on August 23, 2011. This team will play approximately 60-games, including Fall Ball as a select travel team. In addition, to playing in tournaments the young ladies will also receive professional Softball instruction.

Bayside Blues 14U Tryouts

Bayside BluesThe rain this past weekend cancelled the 14u Tryouts and presents a unique opportunity for 14u talent to join Bayside Blues Softball. Bayside is one of the top 10 Softball Organizations in the Mid Atlantic Region. It’s teams are often ranked in the 20 in the nation and they are consistently among the top 100 in the nation.

 

 

Since 1992, over 80 Blues athletes have signed or have committed to play softball at the next level – over half of them to D1 schools. For those looking for college exposure, Bayside Softball provides the best.
