Since 1998, Prince George’s Country has become a dominant force in the sport of high school football.  Prince George’s County Public Schools have won 13 of their 19 Maryland State Football Titles during this time span.  Friendly, Potomac and Suitland High Schools have all won 2 titles each since 1998.  Bowie, Eleanor Roosevelt, Forestville, and Gwynn Park also won their first State Titles during this period.  Parkdale High School won its second State Title in 2002, having won its first State Title in 1974.

Previous Maryland State Football Titles were won by DuVal, Largo, Laurel and Oxon Hill.  Friendly leads all County High School Football teams with 5 State Football Titles.

While the public schools were asserting themselves, DeMatha High School continued to excel winning 8 of its 19 Washington Catholic Athletic Conference Football Titles between 1998 and 2007.  With more than 35 titles in the past 45 years, it is no wonder that major college recruiters can often be found in the stands for Prince George’s County football games.

Numerous County players have made it to the professional level in this sport and some have become All-Pros at their positions.  You don’t have to travel to Pennsylvania or Texas to see good high school football.  Support one of our County Schools on a Friday night or Saturday afternoon. more …
