The Bowie Boys and Girls Club’s Lacrosse teams and the Prince George’s County Lacrosse Club’s teams participate in the Southern Maryland Youth Lacrosse Association (SMYLA). This League is divided into four age groups: Bantams (U9), PeeWee’s (U11), Midgets (U13) and Juniors (U15). The league covers Six Counties Charles, St Mary’s, Calvert, Montgomery, Frederick and Prince George’s.
The SMYLA Tournament is hosted in Bowie the weekend before Memorial Day each year. In 2008, the Bowie Boys and Girls Club Lacrosse program’s Pee Wee team was the SMYLA runner up. During the summer of 2008, the Prince George’s County Lacrosse Club was successful in the Hero’s Lacrosse League the USA’S Number 1 Summer Lacrosse League.
With the progress that is being made with these programs the Prince George’s County Lax Community has a lot to be optimistic about.
